The 50 Most Desirable & Iconic Designer Chairs in the World!

How to choose the perfect chair for your new design……

Choosing the right chair for your new design scheme is easy right? wrong! From the moment you enter a room the first thing that will catch your eye is a chair, you will think to yourself  ‘is that the right chair’…….does it fit with the colour scheme? is it too grand or perhaps not grand enough? Most of the time very little consideration is made and given to this incredible and important piece of furniture, it can lift a design scheme to incredible new heights (if you get it right), but equally can destroy the look of a room in an instant, you see a chair is not just something you sit on but quite often a magical piece of functional art that you will look at, cherish and adore for many years to come, I can honestly say its my favourite piece of furniture.

More than any other piece of furniture, the chair has been the subject of a designers wildest dreams, if they get the design right they are literally made for life and will leave a lasting legacy in their name that will see their design revered forever, its the ‘holy grail’ for a designer, thats how important the design of a chair can be and literally what every notable designer in history has striven for, the ultimate, perfect, unique chair design that no-one else had dreamt of or thought of before them,  their very own ‘Master Piece’.

From Josef Hoffman to Michael Thonet,  Marcel Breuer to Mies van der Rohe, Charles & Ray Eames to Florence Knoll,  Hans J Wegner to Finn Juhl the list really is endless, each designer mentioned is a ‘design god’ in their own right and with legendary status in the design world who’s designs will last ever and will sit pride of place in MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and other top museums around the World, the designs vary from Art Deco to Mid Century Modern, from Bauhaus to Brutalism, the history of the chair is so complex that it requires a comprehensive encyclopaedic knowledge to do it full justice, you could choose 1000 chair designs as being the best ever and there would still be another 1000 that you missed, chairs have now become the ‘go to’ piece of furniture that can define an entire design scheme so choose carefully and wisely because not only are you buying a piece of furniture but also a piece of art that will appreciate as much as a Warhol for years to come.

So which chair do you choose? a chair is an investment piece so bear that in mind when making this very important purchase, and with so many designs, options and variations available to choose from making the right decision can be tough, to help you make the right choice, I’ve compiled a list of my top 50 favourite designer chairs which will enhance and lift any room, listed in no particular order:
