Magnificent Antique Military Campaign Chest of Drawers Mahogany Victorian No.6
A magnificent and extremely good looking antique early 19th century military Mahogany campaign chest of drawers dating to circa 1860, The rectangular top over two short and three long drawers, raised on turned Teak legs, The chest features its original campaign inset brass drop handles, brass corner protectors and brass strap-work to the frame. The chest splits into two very manageable sections for ease of transportation. Campaign chests and furniture such as this one were traditionally constructed from Mahogany or Teak because these woods had the advantage of only minimally expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity, Mahogany and Teak are also very resilient and resistant to infestation from woodworm, termites etc.
Condition: This chest is offered in very good original condition and has recently been restored and re polished by our in house restorer brining it back. To its original beauty. As to be expected from furniture of this age there are minor stains and marks as shown in the images (deliberately left there) showing that the piece has been through the wars and had a good proper working life and proudly carries the scars to prove it, we think this only adds to the overall character and appeal of the piece and love it as is. The chest features its original brass campaign recessed handles and escutcheons, the dovetailed drawers all open and close smoothly. The drawers all feature working lever locks however the key shown in the images does not lock the drawers and is provided with a tassel for appearance purposes only.
