This exceptional Paolo Buffa Kingwood Parquetry desk dates to Italy circa 1940s, the rectangular blue baize top, covered with glass, over six parquetry herringbone drawers each with brass shell shaped drawer pulls, all raised on elegantly tapered legs ending in brass sabots.

This visually striking desk uses Kingwood parquetry typically used for 18th century French Louis XV furniture, with a spacious set of six drawers, the legs feature a cast bronze foot known as a "sabot" in a similar style as the drawer hardware. "Sabots" first appeared in the seventeenth century as a way to illuminate the foot of a piece of furniture in the dim interior light (light only came from fireplaces and candles at that time) as well as to protect the timber from an errant foot that might kick the leg when passing by. The design of this desk offers great versatility as it may be placed in an office, living room, bedroom or dining room with equal ease.

Condition: in very good vintage condition with no weakness to the joints, no past or present woodworm, all drawers are clean with no odours or smells, the drawers open and close with ease, all locks are present however the keys are not present, keys can be cut to order.
