The chest splits into two very manageable sections for ease of transportation, comes with one non working key with tassel. Campaign chests and furniture such as this one were traditionally constructed from Mahogany or Teak because these woods had the advantage of only minimally expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity, Mahogany and Teak are also very resilient and resistant to infestation from woodworm, termites etc..
Condition: This chest is offered in good original condition. As to be expected from furniture of this age there are minor stains, knocks, chips and marks showing that the piece has been through the wars and had a good proper working life and proudly carries the scars to prove it, the chest has a wonderful rich aged patina. The chest features its original brass campaign recessed handles and escutcheons, the dovetailed drawers all open and close smoothly. The key shown in the images does not lock the drawers and is provided with a tassel for appearance purposes only. There is no evidence of past or present woodworm, the chest splits into two sections.
